Already disadvantaged in society, women and children are the worst affected by disaster. It is estimated that 50,000 flood-hit pregnant women were in affected regions of Pakistan during recent flooding, exposed to pre and post delivery diseases and problems like malnutrition, malaria, hepatitis, thyroid diseases, and worse.
In a session about the impacts of flooding on the health of Pakistani women, The Pakistan National Forum on Women Health (PNFWH) will describe the miserable impact of flooding in Pakistan on women who are already living in extreme poverty - women whose needs are not given priority in relief and recovery efforts. The PNFWH believes women's rights organizations and those affected by the disaster must be included in planning and decision-making around rehabilitation and reconstruction processes to ensure equal access to land and livelihoods.
This session will be presented in English.
