The Story of Power, Privilege, and Resistance in the Classroom

Scholars and activists around the world are contemplating and innovating teaching and pedagogy, as well as the transformative potential of education in classrooms and beyond.

Paying particular attention to dynamics of conflict and resistance both among students and between students and the ways in which such conflicts were addressed, this panel hosted by the Gender & Women's Studies Department of SUNY Plattsburgh will examine diverse experiences as professors and teaching assistants in a range of Gender and Women's Studies courses.

Panellists will reflect on experiences in several courses -- Global Gender Issues, Introduction to Gender and Women's Studies and Women and Popular Culture -- in light of the growing body of literature on feminist pedagogy, making observations about classroom dynamics and students' learning with reference to key principles of feminist pedagogy.
